About
Matthias completed his Ph.D. with Ruhr-University Bochum's Institute for Neural Computation (INI) and the University of Copenhagen's Department of Computer Science (DIKU). His project examined "Online multi-class support vector machines and their application to classification of acoustic remote sensing data in support of Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty verification", improving machine learning algorithms and their application to geophysical data.
Since his research at the INI, Matthias has worked on coordination of climate change research with the World Meteorological Organization; contributed to a research project in occupational health with the Institute for Integrative Health Care and Health Promotion at Universität Witten/Herdecke; led the Strategic Project Management Team at the Berlin-based startup Aignostics to improve AI cancer research; and is currently Program Manager for Digitalization and Transversal Programs with McPhy, a pan-European specialist on production and distribution of low-carbon hydrogen electrolyzers.
Matthias holds a Diploma in Physics, a Diploma for Graduates in International Relations, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. His achievements have been recognized by a number of high-profile scholarships.
In his freetime, he likes to dance as well as teach Argentine Tango, and maintains a keen interest in scientific mechanisms underlying healthy movement such as evidence-based physical therapy and rehabilitation.
PhD Advisors:

In IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) (pp. 863–868).The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a central research unit of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. We aim to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory systems and while acting in those environments through effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental approaches from psychology and neurophysiology as well as theoretical approaches from physics, mathematics, electrical engineering and applied computer science, in particular machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.
