Computersehen: Einführung
The course will be held in a pure online format.
A link to the Moodle course will be made available on this website at the beginning of April. No password is required for enrolment.
Online Course Format
Screencasts of each lecture will be made available in the moodle course at the originally scheduled lecture times.
Excercise sheets will be made available shortly after. They include both argumentative and programming tasks, which will be discussed during online meetings in the week following the assignments.
Students are asked to go through the course material (lectures and excercises) and prepare presentations of their solutions to the given problems, e.g. by sharing their computer screen to explain code.
For further details on the procedure, see the moodle course.
Course Topics
The lecture introduces students to the fundamentals of digital image processing. The effect of different methods and procedures is demonstrated with examples from several fields of application (e.g. medicine, robotics, driver assistance systems).
Some of the topics that are covered:
- What are digital images?
- Histograms - Point operators (contrast equalization, thresholding, histogram equalization)
- Filters (Box filter, Gaussian filter, low pass and high pass filters, median filter, edge filter)
- Hough transform
- Morphological operators
- Geometrical image operations
- Interpolation
- Segmentation
- Classification
- Viola-Jones framework
The lectures will be given in German.

The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a research unit of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Its scientific goal is to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory and effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental psychology and neurophysiology as well as machine learning, neural artificial intelligence, computer vision, and robotics.
