Limited number of participants! Please enroll by sending an email to marc-philipp.tschentscher@ini.rub.de stating your name, student id (Matrikelnummer), course of studies and current semester. Enrollment: from June 1 to July 7, 2017.

The goal of the lab exercise is to introduce to the basics of digital image processing considering current examples of computer vision.

First, a short overview of programming with MATLAB is given. Then the handling of digital images is learned by implementing simple operations like mirroring and tiling. In the next step basic image processing methods, e.g. histogram equalization, image filtering, edge detection or recognition of objects with defined shape, are implemented.

About the INI

The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a research unit of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Its scientific goal is to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory and effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental psychology and neurophysiology as well as machine learning, neural artificial intelligence, computer vision, and robotics.
