Theory and Physiology of Neural Networks
Die Veranstaltung findet täglich über 6 Wochen statt.
Im Rahmen des S-Blocks "Theory and Physiology of Neural Networks" wird eine Einführung in die Methoden der Modellierung neuronaler Netzwerke gegeben. Es wird angestrebt, aus der gemeinsamen Behandlung experimenteller und theoretischer Sichtweisen ein vereinheitlichtes Verständnis von Gehirnfunktionen zu entwickeln. Ausgehend von experimentell erhobenen Daten liegt der Schwerpunkt auf Grundlagen der nichtlinearen Dynamik zur Erzeugung und Erklärung komplexen Verhaltens.
Der S-Block umfasst eine Einführung in theoretische und mathematische Grundlagen neurobiologischer Modellierung, neuronaler Informationsverarbeitung und cortikaler Platizität. Daneben stehen elektrophysiologische Experimente, deren Ergebnisse direkt in Computersimulationen einfließen.

Requirements
Der S-Block wendet sich an fortgeschrittene Studenten der Biologie mit guten Kenntnissen in Mathematik; Programmierkenntnisse sind vorteilhaft.
The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a central research unit of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. We aim to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory systems and while acting in those environments through effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental approaches from psychology and neurophysiology as well as theoretical approaches from physics, mathematics, electrical engineering and applied computer science, in particular machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.
