20 Participants from Europe and the US are joining us this week at the INI for the yearly summer school on Dynamic Field Theory. Tutorial introductions into the mathematical concepts of this neurally grounded approach to understanding cognition and sensorimotor processes are complemented by hands-on computer exercises. Over the week, participants are building their own models and implement them in one of two software frameworks. They also have a chance to "act out" their cognitive architecture on autonomous robots in the lab. Participants come from diverse displinary backgrounds ranging from Psychology, Philosopy to LInguistics and Computer Science that match the interdisplinary nature of Dynamic Field Theory.
The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a research unit of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Its scientific goal is to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory and effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental psychology and neurophysiology as well as machine learning, neural artificial intelligence, computer vision, and robotics.
