...by car

There are various possibilities depending on the direction you come from:

  • On motorway A40 (Ruhrschnellweg) take the exit Bochum Stahlhausen and get on the Donezk-Ring. After approx. 8km take the exit Bo.-Querenburg/Ruhr-Uni Bochum and turn right into the Universitätsstrasse. The university will be on the right-hand side after a few kilometers (exit Uni-Mitte).
  • In the north-south direction take the exit Ruhr-Universität off the motorway A43/A1. Follow the signs and exit the street at Universität Ost.
  • In the nort-eastern direction Bochum is crossed by motorway A44 (Niederlande-Kassel) and motorway B1/A40 (Ruhrschnellweg). Take the exit Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Exit No. 19).
  • From the inner city of Bochum, get on the Universitätsstrasse southbound.

...by train

  • From the main station of Bochum take the underground, line U35, in the direction of Hustadt, and exit at Ruhr-Universität.

Lageplan Ini

The Institut für Neuroinformatik is located on the south-east side of the university campus (building NB surrounded by orange rectangle). If travelling by car, you should follow one of the red paths to the INI (depending on where you come from). A footway starting at the train-station Ruhr-Universität is shown as an orange path.

The Institut für Neuroinformatik (INI) is a central research unit of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. We aim to understand the fundamental principles through which organisms generate behavior and cognition while linked to their environments through sensory systems and while acting in those environments through effector systems. Inspired by our insights into such natural cognitive systems, we seek new solutions to problems of information processing in artificial cognitive systems. We draw from a variety of disciplines that include experimental approaches from psychology and neurophysiology as well as theoretical approaches from physics, mathematics, electrical engineering and applied computer science, in particular machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.
