Lecture (2 SWS, 2 credit points): Thursdays 12:15-13:45 o'clock in the larger INI seminar room NB 3/57. First time 05.04.2012.
Tutorial (2 SWS, 4 credit points): Thursdays 10:30-12:00 o'clock in the larger INI seminar room NB 3/57. First time 12.04.2012.

This course covers mathematical methods that are relevant for modeling and data analysis. Particular emphasis will be put on an intuitive understanding as is required for a creative command of mathematics. The following topics will be covered: Functions, vector spaces, matrices as transformations, systems of linear differential equations, qualitative analysis of nonlinear differential equations, Bayes theory, multiple integrals.

Criteria for a certificate for the tutorial are an active participation, in particular presentation of selected exercises, and at least 50% in the final exam.

This course can be given in English upon request. Course material (lecture notes and exercise sheets) will be in English in any case.
